I used to wear my toughness like a badge of honor. I didn’t back down. I didn’t walk away. I believed if I could fight hard enough — through disappointment, rejection, injustice — I’d win.
But instead of victory, I found myself burned out, bitter, and bruised. The more I fought, the more I lost the very thing I was trying to protect: my peace.
Fighting isn’t always about fists or shouting. Sometimes it’s the silent wars we wage — defending our pride, holding our grudges, trying to fix what we can’t control. I was constantly in defense mode: of my time, my ideas, my worth. And it left me anxious and spiritually drained.
Peace doesn’t live in that space. Peace doesn’t bloom in battlegrounds. It grows in surrender. In stillness. In trust.
I began to realize that my compulsion to fight wasn’t strength — it was fear in disguise. I was afraid of being seen as weak. Afraid of being taken advantage of. Afraid of being overlooked. But the battle was costing me more than I could afford.
The turning point came when I started asking God not to change my enemies, but to change me. And He did — by teaching me how to lay down the sword. Not in defeat, but in divine wisdom.
He showed me that peace isn’t passive. It takes incredible strength to walk away from the noise and lean into trust. That sometimes the bravest thing you can do is not clap back. Not prove your point. Not fight for your reputation.
In White Flagging, I open up about the emotional toll of always being on the defense, and how true peace only came when I chose to step out of the ring.
If you’re tired — not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually — it might be time to ask yourself: What fights have I been engaging in that are wrecking my peace?
