There was a time I believed that surrender meant quitting. That to wave the white flag was to admit failure. That letting go meant weakness — spiritual, emotional, even personal weakness. I thought strength meant pushing through, holding it together, showing no cracks. But I was wrong.

My journey has taught me a radical truth: Surrender is not weakness. It is the highest form of strength.

The culture around us doesn’t celebrate surrender. It celebrates hustle, domination, strategy, and power. But what if true power isn’t found in clenched fists and high control — but in open hands and humble trust?

I reached my breaking point when I realized I was pretending to be strong but was actually just scared. Scared of what might happen if I stopped forcing results. Scared of being seen as incapable if I let go. Scared that trusting God fully might lead to loss instead of gain.

But here’s what actually happened: When I finally let go, I didn’t fall apart. I fell into grace.

That decision — to stop fighting for my way and start yielding to God’s way — began to open doors I couldn’t push open myself. It healed places I didn’t even know were bleeding. And it gave me back the one thing I hadn’t felt in years: peace.

Surrender is not passive. It is deeply powerful. It takes courage to admit you don’t have all the answers. It takes faith to release your grip. It takes maturity to say, “Not my will, but Yours.”

In my latest book, White Flagging: The Surprising Power of Winning by Surrender, I unpack how surrender became my superpower. How it taught me to stop striving and start trusting. And how it flipped my idea of strength on its head.

So many people are emotionally exhausted, spiritually dry, and relationally depleted — not because they’re lazy, but because they’re trying to carry what was never theirs to carry.

If that’s you, I want to invite you to consider this: maybe the strongest thing you can do right now is not hold on, but let go.
