Walking through surrender — emotionally, spiritually, relationally

Let’s not sugarcoat it:
Letting go hurts. Even when you know it’s the right thing.
Even when you trust God. Even when it’s necessary for your growth.

Because when you let go — really let go — you’re releasing something you once loved, believed in, or held close.
Sometimes, it’s a dream.
Sometimes, it’s a version of yourself.
Sometimes, it’s a relationship, a reputation, a role, or a deeply rooted expectation.

Letting go doesn’t just free your hands.
It breaks your heart first.

😞 Grief Often Comes Before Growth

No one told me that surrender would feel like grief.
I thought letting go would feel clean — like finishing a chapter and starting a new one.

But instead, it felt like a funeral.

I cried over dreams I thought I would live.
I mourned the time, energy, and heart I had poured into something that didn’t bear the fruit I imagined.
I sat in silence, asking God, “Why did You allow me to hope for it, only to take it away?”

What I learned is this:
Grief is not a sign you’re faithless. It’s a sign you were invested.
And God honors that investment — even when He calls you to walk away from it.

💔 The Honest Ache of Release

There is a sacred kind of pain that comes when you stop fighting for something you once thought you couldn’t live without.

I remember a moment — in a dark room, head bowed, heart heavy — whispering,

“God, I don’t know who I am without this… but if You’re asking me to let go, I will.”

I expected silence.
But instead, I sensed this deep, still response in my soul:

“Now I can show you who you really are.”

That was the beginning of my healing.

🕊️ Healing Begins Where Control Ends

Surrender doesn’t just release the situation — it makes room for God’s restoration.
And healing comes in layers, just like surrender does.

First came the peace — quiet, subtle, but steady.
Then came the clarity — new vision, unexpected doors.
Then came the strength — a rising from within that I hadn’t felt in years.

Letting go didn’t mean I was giving up.
It meant I was trusting God with the parts of my heart I had tried to protect on my own.

🔁 From Pain to Purpose

When I started writing White Flagging, I didn’t know that healing would be one of its central themes.
But that’s what surrender leads to — real, lasting, holy healing.

“The healing began not when I had all the answers, but when I stopped needing them and trusted the One who holds them.”

That line from the book came directly out of a season where God healed wounds I didn’t even know I was carrying.

He used surrender to pull out the thorns.
He used release to rebuild my strength.
He used letting go to lead me back to joy.

🌱 What Are You Holding Onto That’s Hurting You?

Sometimes, the very thing we refuse to release is the source of our pain.
And we keep praying for peace — not realizing peace is waiting on the other side of surrender.

So tonight, I ask you gently:
What do you need to let go of — so healing can begin?

It might hurt.
But it won’t destroy you.
It will save you.
